About the event

'The Humble Work' : Connecting Care and Creativity in Christina Rossetti's Writing.

Did you know the Christina Rossetti was not only one of the nineteenth century's greatest poet's, but that she was also an unpaid carer?

Beginning with Rossetti's early work as a teenager in the 1840's and ending with her experimental 1885 volume, 'Time Flies'. Dr. Dinah Roe will explore how Rossetti's caring responsibilities shaped her creative responsibilities.

Dr. Roe is Reader in English Literature at Oxford Brookes University, specialising in Pre-Raphaelitism and Victorian Poetry. She is currently editing 'Christina Rossetti's Complete Poems and is working on a British Academy funded project examining the connections between Rossetti's creativity and her work as a carer.
